VermaaklikheidVermaaklikheid (Riversdale Tourism)
On the banks of the Duivenshok River, snuggled between Heidelberg and Riversdale, is the sleepy little hamlet of Vermaaklikheid (amusement). A scenic 300km from Cape Town, it can be described as a special hideaway unblemished by time and progress; a place where one can escape the pressures of modern living and restore mind and body. The tiny town is dotted with ‘Kaapstyl” (Cape-style) houses and has an excellent restaurant.
The Duivenshok Estuary and its surrounds is one of the last remaining pristine estuaries in South Africa. The Duivenshok Conservancy was established to preserve its unique character and the area is also a Nature Conservation Protectorate.
A unique eco-experience offers swimming, canoeing, fishing, nature walks, mountain biking and bird-watching. No jet skiing or speeding is allowed on the river.
There are organised day tours to other parts of the Garden Route and Klein Karoo.
Access to the quaint coastal town is only via (very bumpy) gravel roads.
