Witsand
Experience friendly village life that offers food for the soul and a place to simply relax and unwind.
Situated at the mouth of the Breede River, Witsand offers 4km of white sandy beaches, surrounded by magnificent species of Cape fynbos within this Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site.
The central feature of the Malgas/Witsand area is the magnificent Breede River, one of the largest, most navigable rivers in South Africa and a birdwatchers’ paradise.
Witsand is known as THE Whale Nursery of Southern Africa, due to the record number of Southern Right whales that migrate to San Sebastian Bay annually between June and November. It is the best land-based vantage point from which to view these 58-ton gentle giants of the sea.
Hike the 54km Whale Trail, renowned for its diverse fynbos, magnificent dunes and whale-watching vantage points.
Can you imagine the thrill of watching a baby whale being born, then tossed into the air by the ‘midwife’ in order for it to gasp its first breath of air?
Explore our rock pools and marvel at sea creatures like octopus, star fish, sea urchin and crab.
Whether it’s the desire to be close to nature and its gifts, or to participate in adventure- eco and sporting activities, Witsand has it all.
We would love to share our gifts with you, so join us!
